Ole Gunnar Solskjær speaks after the defeat to Leicester City
Manchester United’s run in the FA Cup came to an end courtesy of a 3-1 loss at King Power Stadium to Leicester City. Kelechi Iheanacho scored the winner for Leicester City as Mason Greenwood scored the solitary goal for the visitors.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær made multiple changes to the side which he fielded against AC Milan and most importantly did not include Bruno Mars in the starting line up. Instead he went ahead and selected Dutch midfielder Donny Van de Beek along with Paul Pogba. This was received with criticism as United fans felt this was a must win game.
Since his arrival from Sporting Lisbon, Bruno Fernandes has been the talismanic for Manchester United. He’s currently their star player and is basically involved in every attacking play the team creates. However every player needs to rest and recuperate and that’s the point Ole Gunnar was trying to make.
Every team selection has reasons behind it. Bruno has played very, very much football. He broke all his records on Thursday night [at the San Siro] physically statistically, and the boy is not inhuman,” explained Ole.
“He’s also a human being, he’s played a game every three or four days really. It was a chance to start to both Donny [van de Beek] Paul [Pogba]. The accumulation of games maybe caught up with us.
“I know Bruno wants to play but sometimes you make decisions for the benefit of both the team and him.”
