Fabio Fognini recently launched his new autobiography titled Warning: “My life between the lines.” In his new book, Fognini mentioned about some of the biggest names in tennis including Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic. The book also included some of Fognini’s on-court troubles and his rivalry with Andy Murray.

Speaking about Rafael Nadal and his ex-coach and uncle Toni Nadal, Fognini mentioned in his book that Rafael Nadal always received tips from Toni Nadal during the game and later went on to admire the Spaniard for his dedication to the game and each point he plays.

Fabio Fognini mentioned in his book about the coaching Nadal recieved from his ex-coach and uncle, Toni Nadal. Communicating to the players from the player’s box is not allowed during the game and the chair umpire usually gives a warning to the player and coach if they continue to communicate.

Fabio Fognini might have felt that the umpires were a bit unfair in not giving any warning to Rafael Nadal and his uncle and wrote in his autobiography, “Not many know that Toni Nadal was really active during the matches. From his box, he constantly talked to Rafa, gave him tips, supported him. That is coaching. Everybody knows, umpires included, but nobody acts because it’s part of the game, as the lines and the net.”

Toni Nadal, ex-coach and uncle of Rafael Nadal played a great part in shaping the 19-time Grandslam champion’s career. Right from a very young age, Rafael Nadal trained under the wings of his uncle until the separated in 2017. Together, the pair won a total of 16 Grandslam titles. Rafael Nadal mentioned the importance of his Toni Nadal in his autobiography titled Rafa: My Story. Rafael Nadal’s present coach is Carlos Moya.

Fabio Fognini was in full praise of Rafael Nadal admiring his determination on the court and the way he fights for each point. He wrote in his book, “Hard to describe how Rafa plays but if I had to use just one word I would say ‘Savage’. A volcano energy explosion guided by discipline and method, Nadal plays every point in training as they were Grand Slam championship points. Tennis for him is a very serious business,.” 

Fabio Fognini also described a funny incident between him and Nadal at the US Open, “I meet Nadal at the US Open, he is playing the simulator. I ask him if he wants to play it me. He thinks I want to train with him. That’s the first time we ever played,” Fognini wrote in his autobiography.
