“He didn’t learn” Nate Diaz believes a trilogy fight could’ve helped Conor McGregor against Khabib at UFC 229
Conor has repeadtedly called out Nate, with the latter showing no interest in a trilogy
Nate Diaz believes Conor McGregor could have beat Khabib Nurmagomedov only if he had not jumped the line to face Floyd Mayweather. As bizarre as it may sound, he truly could have a point here. Well not completely on the surface but if you dig deeper there is something of substance there
The MMA world and the combat sports world, in general, turned inside out when Conor McGregor captured this lightweight title against Eddie Alvarez at the MSG, in a picture-perfect, flawless performance. Becoming the first man to hold two UFC titles simultaneously, McGregor’s intentions for a big-money boxing fight against Floyd Mayweather were receiving ever more press coverage.
It ultimately came to fruition when the two squared off at the T Moblie Arena, in a mega-fight that net both athletes upwards of 100 million dollars. Though McGregor would lose to Mayweather via a Round 10 TKO, the amount of money he earned that single night could leave no complaints in his mind.
Nate Diaz Believes Conor McGregor learned nothing when he was choked out by Diaz
However when he returned to MMA, at UFC 229 to recapture his lightweight title, now in the clutches of Khabib, the Irishman was humiliated from the starting bell to the ultimate submission finish in round 4. The deeply personal rivalry had infamous Russia vs Ireland brawl shortly after the fight was over.
On his interview with Ariel Helwani, Nate Diaz says that he believes, had Conor completed their trilogy he could have succeeded against Khabib. “That’s how you fight him, blueprint, beat his ass hella easy, let him punch himself out, 10th round beat his ass, “ said Diaz attesting that he did that to Conor right before Floyd did and argued he laid out the blueprint for the rest.
“And then he went and got choked by Khabib, like he didn’t learn how to not get choked which he would have done if he’d have finished the trilogy with me” said the Stockton Native arguing that had McGregor completed his trilogy with Diaz and learned from his mistakes there he could have avoided getting beat by Mayweather and Nurmagomedov.
“You know what I’m saying, he could’ve got better, but he jumped the line, he skipped through and they helped him” said Diaz accusing the UFC of not showing him preference despite having been with the company longer.
