‘He is like a very finely tuned machine’ – Conor McGregor’s striking coach reveals Conor is in tremendous shape, ahead of his fight with Dustin Poirier
Conor McGregor’s striking coach Owen Roddy revealed how phenomenal Conor looked right now, his fight preparations and a lot more about the lightweight division which is currently bustling.
Conor McGregor is scheduled to take on Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 on the 23rd of January, 2021. The match marks Conor’s return from retirement for the third time. Conor, last took on Donald Cerrone – finishing him in the very first round.
Speaking to The Bash MMA, Owen Roddy was completely in awe when he talked about the shape Conor McGregor is in right now.
“He is in a happy place you know” – Owen Roddy
Speaking of Conor McGregor’s training, Roddy said, “He didn’t stop training [since the Cerrone fight]. You know. He hasn’t stopped. He has been very active, and working all areas of mixed martial arts… He is in the best shape I’ve seen in me entire life… He is like a very finely tuned machine and you can see it… I was looking at certain things like you know, when he’s doing his cardio – his heart rate and how quickly it comes up and back down to the green zone…And then when it comes to his grappling, his wrestling, we all know his striking is phenomenal as well. He looks phenomenal and he is in a good place. He is in a happy place you know!“
When asked if he would like to see the UFC put the title on the line for this fight, Roddy replied, “I definitely think it’s the most obvious option for a title fight, so I don’t know what they’re doing, we don’t know what they’re doing in regards to that, but maybe they’re just hoping to see Khabib come back, you know? I think that’s probably the most obvious reason that they haven’t made it into a title fight, especially with the fact that Gaethje was the interim champion, he lost to Khabib, but Dustin has a win over Gaethje, Conor has a win over Dustin. You know what, If Khabib does stay retired, there’s a lot of fights that will have to be played out, so many fights that can happen, the division is in a very exciting position, and then maybe Khabib comes out again.”
Should the Conor – Dustin fight be a title fight? Will the “Notorious” obtund the “Diamond”?
