“He will definitely improve” – Wriddhiman Saha on fellow wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant

Wriddhiman Saha and Rishabh Pant

India’s Rishabh Pant has come under intense scrutiny over his wicket-keeping skills in recent times. His dropped catches and misses were criticized with people calling for Wriddhiman Saha to replace him as India’s wicket-keeper. Pant redeemed himself with the bat however, as he came up with two scintillating knocks in the 3rd and 4th Test to help India win the series. Despite is batting brilliance, there have been calls for Pant to be played as a pure batsman and Saha as the keeper.
With the series against England coming up next, it remains to be seen whether India will trust Pant with keeping duties especially on turning Indian wickets or if Saha will be drafted in for the same. Having said that, Pant is still only 23 years old and there is plenty of time and scope for improvement.
‘Personally, there’s no conflict with him’ – Saha on Pant

Wriddhiman Saha spoke to press today on his return to India from Australia and fielded questions about Rishabh Pant. He said, “You can ask him (Pant), we have a friendly relationship and help each other whoever gets into the XI. Personally, there’s no conflict with him. I don’t see who is No.1 or 2… Team will give a chance to those who do better. I will continue to do my job. Selection is not in my hands, it’s up to the management.”
“No one learns algebra in class I. You always go step by step. He is giving his best and will definitely improve. He has matured and proved himself. In the long run, it augurs well for the Indian team. The way he has shown his intent after being sidelined from his favourite T20 and ODI formats was really exceptional,” the 36-year-old said of Pant.
Saha then concisely answered to comparisons between Pant and Dhoni and said, “Dhoni will remain Dhoni and everyone has his own identity.“
