Matthew Stafford caught some slack during the Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl parade when an NFL photographer fell in front of him and his wife, Kelly, and Stafford simply walked away rather than helping out.

The photographer, Kelly Smiley, fell off a stage at the event and suffered a fractured spine. Fortunately, the Staffords as well as the Rams offered to pay for all of her medical bills in an attempt to make it up to her.

Both Kelly and Matthew Stafford have spoken about the incident publicly with Kelly being the more recent one and she expressed just how much Matthew regrets his reaction.

In an interview conducted by Craig Carton and Evan Roberts of WFAN 660, Kelly Stafford was quoted saying “We didn’t know any of that until was past it. I know Matthew wishes he could take that reaction back, but if he tried to help…if anyone saw or heard him that day, he probably wasn’t in the right state of mind to do anything and could’ve made it worse.”

Kelly Stafford further added, “It wasn’t the best reaction, but when we got in the car after, he asked me to text the Rams people and make sure she was okay, and the next day was when we tried to figure out a solution.”

Matthew Stafford spoke about the incident earlier with Analis Bailey of USA Today saying, “Yeah, I mean, that obviously happened really quickly and suddenly and unexpectedly, and I wish I had a better reaction in the moment. I didn’t. I apologized to her for that, but glad that all in all she’s doing alright.”

The whole incident was quite surprising and many people immediately bashed Matthew Stafford for it but his words and more importantly, actions have been warmhearted since then and that’s good to see. In terms of Kelly Smiley, it seems she’ll be alright so that’s good to see too.
