NFL has been under public scrutiny since they released the artist line-up for the Super Bowl halftime show this February. The event is set to take place in New Orleans and will be headlined by Kendrick Lamar. Much to the fans’ dismay, Lil Wayne was nowhere on the list. The rapper has finally broken his silence on the issue.

The line-up for the Super Bowl halftime show raised quite a few eyebrows last week. Lil Wayne kept his silence throughout the week while fans raised their voices on his behalf. On Thursday (September 12) night, he expressed his feelings about the decision on an Instagram live video.

The disheartened rapper blamed himself for being unprepared for diverse possibilities. He admitted that the event taking place in his home city led him to be doubly disappointed.

Lil Wayne credited his fans for uplifting him amidst self-doubt and said he was putting himself back together after feeling ‘broken.’ Several fans as well as huge names from the industry publicly called out Jay-Z and Roc Nation for their decision. The majority of the fans believed the Super Bowl platform should have been used to show gratitude to the rapper whose contributions cannot go unnoticed.

As far as the blame on Jay-Z is concerned, fans believe that as the co-producer of the event, he had a huge role in picking Kendrick Lamar over Lil Wayne. They also noted the complicated history between the two. Over the years, they have written diss tracks about each other. Some people, however, reasoned that the decision to pick Kendrick Lamar was not Jay-Z’s.

Stephen A Smith says Lil Wayne was ‘on the list’ for Super Bowl

In a recent YouTube video, Stephen Smith had several things to say about the recent Super Bowl controversy including Lil Wayne and Jay-Z. He declared his personal emotions on the subject and stated that while he had a good relationship with Jay-Z, he was pissed at the news.

That said, Smith defended the NFL’s decision to pick Kendrick Lamar over Lil Wayne. The ESPN analyst revealed that the latter was an initial consideration to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show. However, he stated that Kendrick Lamar was eventually chosen because he was the biggest thing in the contemporary era.

This year, Kendrick Lamar dominated the rap charts with back-to-back hits, especially thanks to his diss tracks on fellow rapper Drake. Additionally, this will not be his first rodeo as he was also a part of the Super Bowl halftime show back in 2022 alongside Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and 50 Cent.
