The Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford super fight has been on the table for a long time now. A few days ago, it was announced that the fight date has been finalized, and will most probably take place in September around Mexican Independence Day. However, new developments have suggested that the fight has now faced an issue.
Boxing fans have been dreaming about this match-up given both fighters are currently in their respective primes. After Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao, this could have been the biggest clash in recent boxing history. However, Ring Magazine has now announced that Alvarez vs. Crawford is now officially off.
Crawford, the current WBA junior middleweight champion, was planning to move up two weight classes. He was eager to challenge Alvarez at the full super middleweight limit of 168 pounds, and extend his legacy. On the other hand, the Mexican superstar was ready for the challenge, given the hefty fight purse that comes with it.

The main man behind organizing this fight was the chairman of Saudi GEA, Turki Alalshikh. With a mission to revive boxing, Alalshikh helped host top fights such as the back-to-back Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk. Fans had high expectations from Alalshikh, but it has turned into a massive disappointment.
Fight fans react to Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford fight cancellation
Since his light heavyweight loss against Dmitry Bivol, Canelo Alvarez has bounced back and has picked up five wins in a row. In all the fight, the boxer looked flawless and was eager to continue the same momentum. His last fight was against Edgar Berlanga, last year in September and the Mexican superstar was looking forward to making a return.
There were reports about Alvarez fighting YouTuber turned-boxer Jake Paul in a boxing bout before fighting Terence Crawford. Irrespective of his background, Paul is undoubtedly one of the biggest names in the boxing world, which promises pay-per-view sales. Now, with the Crawford fight cancellation, it won’t be surprising to see Alvarez fighting the ‘Problem Child’ next.
I can imagine Crawford having trouble staying 168lbs while training too. https://t.co/FKdDYO7V2Z

How do people still respect this dude?
Because of the Jake Paul fight?

How do they agree to it, announce it and then cancel it within 48 hours? 🤦🏼♂️

I promise you, if they cancelled this fight for Jake v Canelo- I'll be so upset.

No surprise with the weight class difference anyway lol

Canelo needs to fight the best 168 lbs fighters.
— Anthony (@lifeofTony991) February 6, 2025
147 lbs Crawford and fake boxer Jake Paul are disrespectful to the sport.
Rather see Canelo vs Benavidez, that's the big fight to make in boxing bro.

It was way to good to be true man. I actually believe it for a second 😭

The official reason for the Crawford vs. Alvarez is yet to be announced, but fans were quick to share their assumptions. While many claimed that the weight difference between both fighters was massive, others highlighted the potential Jake Paul fight. Irrespective of everything, it was a huge fight that fans missed out on.
