San Francisco Giants outfielder Heliot Ramos became the first right-handed batter to ever hit a splash in Oracle Park. It was the first hit in 24 years and the 1st ever by a right-hander to hit over the towering walls into McCovey Cove.
His achievement became one of its kind, more so as it took place on Roberto Clemente Day. The day got more special as the Giants further held a pregame celebration to honor the life of HOFer Orlando Cepeda, who passed away in June.
Ramos proudly said that he is grateful to be part of “a lot of great legends” the organization has, and the splash hit was also his dream come true. Just a week ago, the outfielder talked about how he wanted to hit over at McCovey Cove, but given the wall and the weather, it was never easy.
I always knew that I had that oppo juice, but it looks impossible just by looking at the wall and the weather here…I was always positive that I was going to do it…For me, to be the first one to do it, it’s insane to me.Heliot Ramos on X.
As of now, Ramos has not gotten the ball back yet. He is open to negotiation and hopes to get it back. The 103.8 mph ball was recovered by kayaker Dave Edlund, who previously refused to give a ball back to Braves outfielder Michael Harris II during his grand slam.
I can ask for it, but I don’t know. I’ve got to see what they’re going to do. They’re going to ask for it.Heliot Ramos on X.
