Henderson the Hero, but United Lack Depth in Attack
Manchester United faced Luton Town in the League Cup tie, right after their 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer needed this win, and he got it through goals from Mata, Rashford and Greenwood. However, it could have gone all wrong for United if it wasn’t for one crucial Henderson’s save.
Henderson’s Heroics:
Solksjaer made 10 changes to the team that faced Crystal Palace and gave his players a chance to get some minutes under their belt. However, due to the lack of quality players, the boss needed to call upon his first team strikers to seal the deal. This could have been a little too late if it wasn’t for Dean Henderson’s performance.
Henderson made his debut in goal after Ole promising he will contest De Gea for the No. 1 spot. The 23-year-old pulled off an immense save when the game was at 1-0. This could have lead to an embarrassing result for the Red Devils, as it clearly indicated United’s lack of depth in the attack.
United started with Lingard and Mata and linked well with van de Beek. However, the pace and skill were missing, which became very evident once Rashford and Greenwood came on. Despite the trio attacking well last season, United’s fan were expecting an attacking reinforcement, among others. “Going through is the big thing, some positives, we’ve got a keeper back there who does his job scored some nice goals at the end, you can see the impact they had,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports.
Dean Henderson showed his worth last night, however, it also exposed United’s lack of an attacking force. With their rivals reinforcing their teams, it will be difficult to see United to even challenge for top 6.
