The No:24 Chevy driver William Byron is one of the most talented racers of his generation and is a bonified star for the next-decade of the sport. The Hendrick Motorsports drivers is in the form of his life in the Next-Gen era, securing multiple races wins in all season with the new car, including two Daytona 500 wins. But the journey towards the consistent success hasn’t been easy.
William Byron has encountered some miserable moments in some of these races and that has made him a strong driver. Recently in an interview with The Athletic, he revealed the toughest time he had inside a race car. It was the 2020 Daytona Road Course race and the 2023 Martinsville playoff race that challenged him the most.
Whenever it’s really hot, so there’s a couple. The Daytona road course in 2020 was really bad. And then Martinsville (in the 2023 playoff race) when I got overheated. I just wanted to get out, like claustrophobic.
William Byron told The Athletic.
The temperature and the claustrophobic feeling he had during the race was really taxing, which still makes him wonder how he was able to finish the race. He believes the ran delay cooling the weather helped him a lot, and it seems the No:24 cart might have gotten parked early if the temperature didn’t change to his liking.
Daytona was so hot that I don’t know if a lot of us would have made it to the end. It was that warm. But we had a rain delay and then the weather cooled off after that. It was still humid, but it wasn’t as hot. It was like 105 and humid before the break, and guys would have definitely had some trouble (making it to the finish).
William Byron added.
William Byron got the most memorable autograph of his life from Kenny Wallace
In the same interview, Willaim Byron shared the most memorable autograph of a racer he got has a child and how it inspired him in his career. It was ex-Cup and Xfinity Series racer Kenny Wallace, who is currently one of the most influential media figures in the sport.

A young Byron got the opportunity to meet Wallce, when the veteran was hosting the NASCAR RaceDay show, where the hosts interacted with the fans just like the College GameDay. He enjoyed the experience a lot and getting te Wallace autograph made it more special.
Kenny Wallace when he was doing “NASCAR RaceDay” (on Speed Channel). I was in the crowd. I loved that show. That was just a great show. I feel like we should bring that back. That was such a good vibe and everyone was so into it.
William Byron said.
It was a fun experience which he wants the current generation of fans to witnesses and he has called for the show with the good vibe to return. Byron being one of the biggest personalities in the garage can pull some strings to try making the return possible.
