Tom Aspinall has just shut the doubters up and his hype is fully backed up now as he secured a first-round victory against the biggest challenge in a veteran like Alexander Volkov. Aspinall timed his punches coupled with his speed advantage to eventually use feints to set up perfectly timed takedowns and get an armlock submission in the second takedown of the very first round. The proud Englishman couldn’t have ended the show on a much more amazing note for the fans attending UFC London live and worldwide.

In a division surrounded by dangerous strikers like Ciryl Gane, Tai Tuivasa and the champion Francis Ngannou, Aspinall proved that he has more ways to secure the victory and that is a legit threat on the rest of the division. Aspinall is now 12-2 in his overall MMA career with a 100% finish rate. With the way Aspinall secured his victory- with a flawless submission in the opening round- certainly, his father, who was one of the first-ever black belts of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from England, was the happiest person in the Octagon with the widest smile tonight.

Aspinall has now called out #3 ranked heavyweight Tai Tuivasa, who was once in Aspinall’s position as an #11 ranked heavyweight but things changed because of Tuivasa’s knockout victory at UFC 271 against then #3 Derrick Lewis and someone made a huge leap in the rankings. Aspinall too will make that huge leap as Volkov is currently the #6 ranked heavyweight and this victory must give Aspinall Volkov’s position.
