The schedule for the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been announced and the tournament is set to take place from April 9 to May 30. The tournament will once again be a unique one as it is set to take place across six venues in India behind closed doors. The 2020 edition also took place behind closed doors but in the United Arab Emirates.

Once again, bio-bubble restrictions will be followed strictly. In order to prevent excess travelling, each team will only play in four venues throughout the league stages. There won’t be any home advantage as all venues will be neutral. The six venues which have been chosen are Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. Ahmedabad will host all the playoff matches and the final.

BCCI releases statement confirming venues and schedule

The BCCI released a statement today confirming news about the venues for the IPL and the full schedule. “After nearly two years, the IPL extravaganza will return home with Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata hosting the marquee event. The World’s Largest Cricket Stadium – Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the Playoffs as well as the final on 30th May, 2021 which promises to be a visual spectacle. The newly-built stadium that hosted India’s second pink-ball fixture at home with great grandeur will host its first-ever IPL,” the release read.

The IPL will begin with a match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore on the 9th of April in Chennai. Matches will be played at 7:30 PM IST while the afternoon matches will be held at 3:30 PM IST. The playoffs will begin from May 25 and the final will be held on the 29th of May.
