With every passing day in the ongoing season, Manchester United has only nosedived into madness. The situation stands such that there might be relegation battle on the plate as well for the Red Devils if the situation doesn’t improve at the earliest. The arrival of Ruben Amorim was met with thunderous applause, but at the end of the day, apart from the Manchester derby, things have been lackluster.

There are too many questions on the horizon for Manchester United. However, one of the most predominant ones doing rounds for the Red Devils is that whether the appointment of Ruben Amorim was actually necessary? Amorim was greeted with a rousing ovation into Old Trafford, but since that win against City, he has lost all his battles and the situation gets a lot more complicated.

With Ruud van Nistelrooy doing a fine job of propelling Manchester United to a resurgence, his very limited stay as the coach of the team remains questionable. Could INEOS have done better? Sporting CP and Manchester United aren’t the same gravy

With due deference to both the clubs, it is plain as a pikestaff that the English stalwarts, Manchester United comes with a boatload of overwhelming expectations. Ruben Amorim did a fine job at Sporting CP. However, the pressure on him at Sporting was way different than what he faces now at Old Trafford.

Firstly, United have been navigating along very jumpy borders lately and the start of the season witnessed the team struggling. To get the team out of the initial quagmire, the Devils needed someone who have been a part of the entire situation himself.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, formerly one of the key elements of Sir Alex Ferguson’s United have seen the club up close and was better equipped to deal with the situation. Secondly, van Nistelrooy’s tactics actually started working for United and his stint alongside Erik ten Hag gave him a better perspective of the players.

From the youngsters to the experienced campaigners, United started responding well under him. The goals started coming in and despite a shaky defence, the Devils looked okay. However, with Amorim coming in, he will need more time to arrange his own formation that can reap rewards and that juncture can be costly for United.

Ruben Amorim’s bond with the youngsters has been contrasting

Amorim has done well with a handful of youngsters, but with seasoned pros who are fairly young and can be future prospects, there is a massive mismatch. Kobbie Mainoo has been a phenomenon and continues to be so while Alejandro Garnacho has been on a downward spiral.

The substitution of Joshua Zirkzee against Newcastle United felt more like a late realization from Amorim. With pieces being shuffled so early in the game, the feeling has always been about Amorim plugging in more stopgap solutions.

For a youngster to thrive under any situation, the regularity and understanding needs to be a lot more. With too many youngsters at his behest, Amorim is trying to hit the right chord and the success rate of this heavy rotation is still to find its mark.

For Ruud van Nistelrooy, his time with ETH gave him a bare minimum idea about how the youngsters could step up. He was also well aware of the key strengths of the young guns and could more or less plug them in a more efficient way. More importantly, RVN blended the youngsters and the experienced campaigners well enough to eke out results wherein Amorim is still to map the correct balance.

Player relations coming out in the open

The duel between Marcus Rashford and Ruben Amorim has poured out into the open for the world to witness. This has been a major problem during the reigns of the earlier managers ever since Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down.

Nothing good has come from the battles between the personnel and the players spilling onto the center. Whether it is Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Pogba, Jadon Sancho and now Marcus Rashford, it simply gives Amorim a new front to worry about.

After the Newcastle game, fans were also not happy with the way Joshua Zirkzee was treated. They were vocal about the fact that youngsters shouldn’t have to go through this abject horror. However, given the situation of the club and the dire exigency of results being the nexus of all the discussions, Amorim finds himself at sea.

Unfortunately for the Portuguese manager, there are no signs of the United juggernaut turning a corner. For Ruud van Nistelrooy, it was the results that mattered more. He was already at the wheel, trying to map the right combinations and his relations with the players during his sojourn at the club were pretty good.

Even though the frayed ends can only be pointed out after a while, yet, it was felt that RVN might just be the guy who could have sorted out problems. Unfortunately, United’s search for a more seasoned manager led them to Ruben Amorim and as things stand, for United, it is all about hopes now.
