‘He’s a born leader’ : Thomas Tuchel lauds Mason Mount’s leadership qualities as Chelsea defeated Sheffield United

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has explained why he decided to give the captain band to Mason Mount in the match against Sheffield United. The blues registered a 2-0 win over the Blades in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup to progress through to the semi finals.
They will be facing the likes of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at Wembley whereas Leicester City who defeated Manchester United will be paired up with Southampton FC.
Thomas Tuchel heaps praise on Mason Mount
Mason Mount has been named as the captain for the second time this season with the first coming under former manager Frank Lampard. Mount who was deemed to be Lampard’s favourite captained his boyhood club in the last game for Frank Lampard in charge against Luton Town.
Often termed by the media as ‘Frank Lampard’s son’ , Mason Mount has proven to his critics that it’s his quality which makes him the managers favourite and there’s no favouritism involved in his selection. Thomas Tuchel made several changes to his starting lineup which faced Atletico Madrid and had a total of nine changes.
Mason Mount who was suspended against Atletico Madrid made a comeback along with Billy Gilmour, Kurt Zouma, Emerson Palmieri and Kepa Arrizabalaga. Mount who was left on the bench in Thomas Tuchel’s first game in charge against Wolverhampton Wanderers has been instrumental towards his success.
Our captains are not on the pitch, obviously, Azpi, Thiago and N’golo so Mason was already captain in one of the FA Cup rounds, so we’ve kept the momentum going for him.
He deserves it, leadership isn’t a question of age and he has everything you need to lead the team out here in this game. I’m happy for him and I’m sure he’ll show up.”
