“He’s a loudmouth”- Robert Whittaker laughs at Israel Adesanya’s bold ‘arch-nemesis’ call-out back at UFC 263
Robert Whittaker-Israel Adesanya
UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya will finally defend his belt against whom he got the belt from, Robert Whittaker at UFC 271 taking place next weekend at Toyota Center, Houston, Texas, USA. This will be Adesanya’s fourth title defence and Whittaker’s return to a title fight nearly after 2 years.
Ever since Adesanya took the title from Whittaker back in 2019 at UFC 243, which was the highest attended event in UFC history, he has been pulling off shows after shows with an incredible knockout win over Paulo Costa and significant wins over Yoel Romero and Marvin Vettori.
Whittaker on the other hand stayed laid back for a title fight right after losing the title and decided to fight some top contenders here and there. Now, it seems like Whittaker is all about accepting what’s ahead of him and ignoring all the distractions possible leading up to the fight, for him, that’s a happy zen mode this time.
Robert Whittaker believes Israel Adesanya’s trash talk got him in the first fight
In his interview with FOX Sports Australia, Whittaker spoke about everything different between leading up to the first fight and the rematch. Whittaker has been getting his title shot based on the 3-fight win streak he built after his loss to Adesanya. At one point, Whittaker reacts to Adesanya’s callout of the former champion right after the latter’s last title defence against Marvin Vettori at UFC 263.
“Izzy’s a loudmouth, haha, he’s a loudmouth,” says Whittaker “He talks a lot of trash, especially when his adrenaline’s up and his blood’s pumping, he loves mouthing off and that’s his thing that’s what he does. It annoyed me the first time but I am good now.
Thinking about anything other than ‘he’s just a human and I’m gonna fight him is a distraction, it is,” he continued “And I think some of that stuff got to me the first time.”
What do you make of Whittaker’s assessment of Adesanya’s persona? Adesanya is a trash talker and that too is a great one in order to pull off a great promo for any fight. Do you think Whittaker has his chances against Adesanya this time? Can Adesanya get into Whittaker’s mind again? Who do you think wins at UFC 271?
