Despite his humiliating defeat against Dustin Poirier, Conor McGregor wants to fight for the UFC title that is vacant. He proposes that he fight for the title at stake with another rematch against Dustin before the end of summer 2021. The Irishman immediately wants to run back things with his rival.

The former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion hopes to fight Dustin in a trilogy and snatch the title that is up for grabs.

John Kavanagh, the martial arts coach of Conor said, “He’s already harassing everybody to get the rematch, so we would love to rematch,” he told ESPN.

He also said, “I don’t think Dustin is against that. If we can get the rematch before summer, that would be amazing. If it’s not to be, then I guess I don’t know.”

Maybe he (McGregor) drifts off into the boxing. So if the MMA community could help me out here, get behind me, and pester the UFC to give him another fight sooner rather than later  – so I don’t lose him to boxing for six months – I would appreciate it.”

Conor and Dustin’s history.

Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier standoff

McGregor and Poirier have gone against each other two times till today. The first time both of them met back in 2014. The Irishman beat Dustin the first time. The second time they met, Dustin made sure to seek his revenge and beat Conor by a second-round TKO this past Sunday at UFC 257.

At the second matchup, Dustin silenced his doubters by defeating Conor. Even though Conor looked good in the first round, Dustin ate his punches and slowed down McGregor by giving him some strong leg kicks which later resulted in a severe injury.

The belt currently is at hold by the Russian beast, Khabib Nurmagomedov. If Conor’s wish is made true then the MMA audience might witness a third matchup between the two in which they will fight or the championship. The third match-up sure won’t be a one-sided battle with the series tied up 1-1.
