The Gunners have had a string of poor results that appear to have lost them a spot in the top 4, losing 3-0 at Tottenham Hotspur before losing 1-0 at St James’ Park last night against Newcastle.

After the game, Xhaka raged at Arsenal’s players, claiming that he could only apologize to the team’s supporters since the players weren’t good enough and didn’t follow coach Mikel Arteta’s game plan. Xhaka, on the other hand, did not convince Neville, who believed the 29-year-old was putting the blame on some of Arsenal’s younger players when he has consistently let down the team for several years.

What did Gary Neville say about Granit Xhaka’s comments after Arsenal’s loss to Newcastle?

Arsenal lost 2-0 to Newcastle

“I think I heard him say, ‘stay at home if you haven’t got the balls’ “.  As stated by the Daily Mirror, Neville commented on Sky’s broadcast of the event, “He’s certainly taking a go at guys in his dressing room.”

“I’m not sure who he’s bashing, but I’m hoping it wasn’t the younger players…him?” He’s been a disgrace at times in the last four or five years, being sent off carelessly. He’s left it up in the air there, that was nothing there.”

Many Arsenal supporters will agree with Neville – despite his experience, Xhaka hasn’t exactly led by example, so it seems a little rich for him to be critiquing the rest of his teammates on this occasion.

Arsenal will now have to rely on Tottenham dropping points on the last day of the season, as well as beating Everton, to finish fourth and qualify for the UCL.
