“He’s got bragging rights”- Robert Whittaker reacts to Israel Adesanya sporting his UFC 243 KO NFT at press conference
Israel Adesanya-Robert Whittaker
At UFC 271 press conference you can tell former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker looked in much more peace ahead of his rematch against the current champion Israel Adesanya as compared back to the first time they saw each other. Whittaker is now looking much more focused than ever to claim his title back that he won from fighting the likes of the scariest middleweight in Yoel Romero.
Since he lost his belt to Adesanya via knockout back in 2019 at UFC 243, Whittaker is on an amazing 3-fight winning streak against Darren Till, Kelvin Gastelum and Jared Cannonier. The former middleweight champion, who’s also the winner of The Ultimate Fighter: Smashes, was already known for winning over the likes of Ronaldo Souza, Uriah Hall, Derek Brunson, and Romero himself before he jumped back to winning track after his devastating title loss.
Robert Whittaker compliments Israel Adesanya’s “necklace”
In the pre-fight press conference of UFC 271, Adesanya talked about wearing a pendant that had a moment stored in the centre as part of the UFC’s NFT Collection called UFC Strike. In that, you can see Adesanya knocking out Whittaker in a loop from UFC 243 back in 2019, Whittaker then reacted to the pendant as per the request.
“He beat me the first time, he’s got bragging rights,” says Whittaker with a laugh “What I’ll do, if I won the first time I’ll be [having] something around as well. Umm… it’s a cool necklace,“ says Whittaker. He surprisingly took it in good spirits.
What did you make of Whittaker’s easy-to-go attitude this time compared to the stiffness and aggression he had during the fight week of his first fight with Adesanya back in 2019? Do you think he can get the job done this time and claim the belt back? Or does the belt stays with Adesanya? Also, who do you got winning the co-main event between the heavyweights, Tai Tuivasa and Derrick Lewis?
