Michael Chandler

Hardly was Michael Chandler signed by the UFC, when he was in the thick of things in the MMA promotion company. The former Bellator MMA lightweight, was named the backup fighter for the mega-clash between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje at UFC 254. Talk about being in the SPOTLIGHT! Iron Mike was in fact the face of Bellator MMA, just like UFC’s very own “The Notorious” Conor McGregor.

Of late, Mike Chandler has been actively looking for an opponent, to climb up the lightweight ladder to earn a shot at the title. He even revealed that an introductory fight with an accomplished fighter would do a world of good for him. More recently, he spoke of Conor McGregor as a potential opponent. The American had words of praise for the Irishman, adding that he would have to kill him to get out of the cage.

Speaking to MMA On Point, Chandler was quoted as saying, “When you break down Conor McGregor, you gotta think about the left hand and the spins. But you also have to break down the man himself. The mind games, the mental warfare, he somewhat of an enigma. What we do know is he is great at mental warfare. Great at getting under his opponent’s skin.”

He went on saying, “He’s the biggest, most polarizing name in the sport by far…. Standing across the cage from Conor McGregor has to be a different experience than anyone expects. Standing across the cage from Conor McGregor is something I have visualized for the last 6-8 years. He’d have to kill me to get me out of that cage.”

How well do you think Iron Mike will fare in the UFC? Who would you like him to face in his debut fight?
