“He’s the champ, he’s the guy,” Dana White reflects on Khabib still being listed as the lightweight champion

UFC lightweight champion Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov announced his retirement and vacated the UFC title almost four months ago and we still don’t know what does the title picture of lightweight looks like.
Dana White is still rooting for Khabib’s comeback and they even had a meeting in January of this year but Khabib clearly said that he isn’t looking to come back and he even wanted to meet Dana to ask him to move on with the division, but Dana White still isn’t convinced.
Khabib is still listed as the lightweight champion and on speaking with “Complex” Dana White said, “The one that deserves to be the champion is the one that comes out on top in this tournament. Khabib beat Conor. Khabib destroyed Dustin. Khabib is the man.”
“He’s the champ, he’s the guy. If you look at the guys that deserve to be there it’s whoever’s gonna win out of the top-5. You’ve got Poirier, Gaethje, Charles Oliveira, Chandler, and you still have Tony Ferguson and Conor in the mix too.”
Khabib believes Dustin Poirier should be the champion
After Dustin’s incredible performance at UFC 257, Khabib Nurmagomedov said that Dustin Poirier is the rightful champion of the lightweight division.
Even though these two fighters fought each other in the octagon and Khabib defeated Poirier via submission these two still have upmost mutual respect for each other.
Whether or not Poirier would be the champion is not clear right now but one thing is for sure that after such performance he is a liable title challenger right now.
