After two successive losses, the Carolina Panthers decided to bench Bryce Young favoring Andy Dalton. Amid this, the Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons has come in support of the 23-year-old Young.

The Carolina Panthers suffered huge losses to the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Chargers in consecutive games. The Saints steamrolled the Panthers 47-10 while the Chargers came through 26-3. They are currently en route to being the NFL’s worst team in history with the lowest winning percentage since David Tepper bought them in 2018.

The HC Dave Canales changed his decision to play Young 24 hours later after watching the film. He became the first quarterback picked No. 1 in the common draft era to be benched for non-injury grounds in his second season. The Panthers skipped on CJ Stroud to pick Young at that time, a move many called stupid.

The statistics aren’t favoring the 2021 Heisman Trophy winner, as he grapples to show any signs of his potential. The 2023 first-overall pick has only won two games in the eighteen games he started for the Panthers. Young posted a career-low 6.4 QBR against the Chargers, something the management can’t overlook anymore.

Micah Parsons doesn’t feel the same though. He strongly advocated for Young, calling out the Panthers for not giving him a fair chance to develop. He added that it is not easily possible to grow without a solid team surrounding them. He further also used the example of Caleb Williams, who’s also struggling in the Chicago Bears’ outfit.

I don't think he's getting a fair shake at this. I'm noticing this a lot, especially in these young quarterbacks. You're not giving them growing opportunities. You look at the Kenny Picketts, you look at the Justin Fields, Caleb is having kind of similar struggles as Justin Fields. I just think we're expecting QBs to come into the league and kind of be like 'right now,' without no talent, without no real assets around them and be like 'Hey, it's time to be good right now.'

Micah Parsons believes Bryce Young didn’t have a role model to learn from

The Carolina Panthers, Young walked into wasn’t an ideal place for him to develop. The Panthers hadn’t seen a winning record since 2017. They were going through coaches and interims, Matt Rhule from 2020-2022, and Steve Wilks took over as interim in the 2022 season. The 2023 season wasn’t any better in terms of coaching either.

Parsons had some thoughts on this. Parsons said that Jordan Love was able to perform and become a better QB because of the shadowing he was able to do under Aaron Rodgers. Parsons noted that Young didn’t have anyone to look up to as Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold left the team in the previous season.

The Panthers meet the Las Vegas Raiders in the next game. Raiders, are fresh off an upset win over the Baltimore Ravens, looking for an easy win. It will be up to the Panthers to try and hold them as much as possible.
