New York Yankees legend Hideki Matsui threw out the first pitch for Game 5 of the World Series. The whole Yankee Stadium was booming to cheer the 2009 Fall Classic MVP as he stepped on the field.

Matsui spent the first seven years of his career with the pinstripes and was part of the historical 2009 WS game. Game 5 may very well be the last game at the Yankee Stadium considering the 3-1 lead the Los Angeles Dodgers have.

Each game in the World Series will be an icebreaker. The Dodgers need only one win to secure the Championship, while the Yankees need to win three out of the remaining three to do so. They’ll be trying to force a Game 6 to continue the Fall Classic.

Apart from Matsui, Derek Jeter was also part of the ceremonial throw in Game 3 followed by Paul O’ Neill in Game 4. During the 2009 World Series, Matsui joined the likes of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig after recording a .615 batting average with three HRs and 8 RBIs.

Seeing the NY Yankees 2009 World Series hero Hideki Matsui throw out the first pitch in Game 5 of the World Series may give the pinstripes the jolt they need. They lost Game 1 to Game 3 to the LA Dodgers and failed to secure the series lead.

However, things may change considering captain Aaron Judge comes out of his slump, which is very much possible after last night’s hit. They’ll need to keep up the winning streak if they want to win the World Series.

Baseball fans on social media celebrated the Game 5 opening with Matsui’s pitch. One X user noted, “GODZILLA!! The legend!”, while another added, “The Yankees could use Godzilla right now”.  Check out other reactions below:
