Will Ospreay took on Roderick Strong for the AEW International Championship at the Double or Nothing pay-per-view. The Undisputed Kingdom was also present at the ringside to help out their friend. Needless to say, the match was filled with a lot of outside interference, some of which went horribly wrong.
During the match, Roderick Strong was distracting the referee so his stablemates could get involved. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Mike Bennett had Ospreay hoisted up in an electric chair position on the outside of the ring.
Matt Taven completed a suicide dive to hit their Doomsday Device finisher on the outside of the ring. However, the move did not connect fully, and Will Ospreay awkwardly fell off Bennett’s shoulders and landed right on top of his head.
The Aerial Assassin could then be seen clutching his hand while lying on the floor. The commentators pointed out how horrible the fall was, and even The Kingdom looked worried. Referee Bryce Remsburg rushed to the scene to check on Ospreay, who was deemed clear to compete and later went on to win the match.
Wrestling fans are troubled after seeing Will Ospreay dropped on his head in match against Roderick Strong
This incident left the wrestling world concerned for Will Ospreay. There has been a vocal outcry in the past few years for the protection of wrestlers’ health. Such falls have led to wrestlers suffering concussions during their matches. Fans brought up Big E undergoing a similar fall a few years ago that he has still not recovered from.
They were also frustrated at AEW for their negligence when it came to protecting their fellow wrestlers. Such accidents are an unfortunate part of wrestling. However, AEW has repeatedly been criticized for being indolent when it comes to protecting their wrestlers.
Fans also called out The Kingdom for being highly unsafe while delivering this move to the company’s top babyface. They joked about how it looked like they were wrestling for the first time. Regardless, fans were happy to see his match at Double or Nothing end with Ospreay winning his first championship in AEW.
