‘High IQ’ Bronny James expected to get ‘meaningful minutes’ according to Kendrick Perkins

After a rough season with his college team Bronny entering the 2024 NBA draft gave rise to a lot of criticism but his performance in the NBA Draft Combine portrayed a lot about his ability and understanding of the game.

Surprised and pleased with Bronny James performance in the Draft Combine, former NBA Star Kendrick Perkins put forward his notion about James’ rookie season on First Take. The world shouldn't be surprised with Bronny James getting some meaningful minutes and one thing which we shouldn't question is his basketball IQ.
Kendrick Perkins said

Being Lebron James‘ son who is one of the greatest to ever play the game of basketball Perkins believes that Bronny’s IQ cannot be misjudged. Given James Jr’s performance in the previous seasons where he proved his game and came back from bad health and got drafted by the Lakers, Bronny James is someone who doesn’t have to do much.

Before he got drafted by the Lakers, James Jr was considered to be enjoying the perks of his father’s achievements. But the way he understands the dynamics of the game, be it coming off the screens, creating space, or getting back at the defensive end, he has always had it in him given his father is Lebron James.

Kendrick Perkins feels Bronny James must ‘earn’ the opportunities

Considering the fact that Bronny James had averaged only 4.3 points per game in the last season with the USC and NBA scouts and analysts raising questions on his participation in the McDonald’s All-American last year, it is quite a speculation that Bronny James entering the NBA was not earned but given by Lebron James.

Lebron James has always made it clear that he wanted to play alongside his son in the NBA. But looking at the stats of his son when he played at the McDonald’s All-American game even without having the numbers and his stats with the USC, it was quite clear that Lebron laid a helping hand for his son to get there. Moreover, Kendrick Perkins said that Bronny was ‘Given’ the opportunities even before he could ‘Earn’ them by himself.

The NBA critics blamed Lebron James for putting it on young Bronny to play at levels he was not ready for and this eventually led him to enter the NBA Draft, while he averaged only 4.3 points per game in the last season. Perkins believes that Bronny could now join organizations that will develop him in the long run and make a name for himself, earn money and be a good role player in the NBA.
