Hima Das, Shivpal Singh, Arpinder Singh among missing names in Federation Cup
The first major national tournament of the season, the Federation Cup is set to begin in Patiala from March 15. A host of the nation’s top athletes will be taking part in it. However, with the entry list for the competition having been released, there are some major names who will be missing out on the tournament due to various reasons including injuries.
Ace sprinter Hima Das is one of the big names missing out as is javelin thrower Shivpal Singh due to an ankle injury.“I am having a slight injury on my block leg’s ankle which is my left ankle and has been advised not to do any throws and running until I recover. It doesn’t look major but I won’t recover in time for the Federation Cup,” he told IndiaTVnews in an interview. Neeraj Chopra who bettered his own national record at the Indian Grand Prix 3 will be taking part however.
Other big names miss out
Another big name to miss out will be Arpinder Singh who is the national record holder in triple jump. He had been training in Punjab after the COVID-19 lockdown. But surprisingly, he isn’t a part of the entry list for the tournament. Nirmal Noah Tom, the 400 m runner who injured himself earlier this year will miss out once again as was expected. VK Vismaya who wasn’t a part of the Indian Grand Prix will however take part in the 400 m race along with the likes of MR Poovamma and Kiran Pahal.
Anjali Devi who finished second at the Indian Grand Prix in the 400m race with 51.53 seconds has also missed out with the reason remaining unclear. Despite the fact that such big names are missing out on the tournament, there will still be plenty of talent on forward and to look forward to.
