Jack Hughes will not be getting the golden goal puck. On Wednesday, the Hockey Hall of Fame declined the request of the American international to give him the Olympic gold-medal winning puck.

Last month, the New Jersey Devils star etched his name in history as he scored the overtime winner against Canada in the gold medal game at the Winter Olympics in Milan. His goal secured a first Olympic gold medal for Team USA in men’s ice hockey since 1980.

Since then, Hughes has been celebrated all across the United States. The forward has received a warm reception from several fans following his triumphant return.

At the moment, the puck, which he buried past Jordan Binnington to win the game, is kept for display at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. Earlier this week, the 24-year-old made some comments regarding this and seemed stunned as to why it was there.

I’m trying to get it. Like, that’s bull**** that the Hockey Hall of Fame has it, in my opinion. Why would they have that puck?

Jack Hughes told the reporters

On Wednesday, the Hockey Hall of Fame addressed the situation. While speaking with ESPN, the Vice President of the resource center and curator for the Hockey Hall of Fame, Philip Pritchard, simply claimed that it was never Hughes’ puck.

Unfortunately, in the easiest words, it was never Jack’s puck to own. It’s been donated to us now. For every artifact that’s been donated, we have a paper trail and signed paperwork of where it’s come from.

Hughes had been one of the top performers for his team in Milano Cortina. He finished with 7 points (4 goals and 3 assists) and was the second-highest point scorer for Team USA. His brother, Quinn Hughes, topped the chart for their country with 8 points (1 goal and 7 assists).

Jack Hughes and NJ Devils wreck NY Rangers again

Jack Hughes continued his impressive form on Wednesday. During the clash against the New York Rangers, he and the New Jersey Devils once again wrecked them, resulting in another big win.

Hughes has been a thorn in the side of the Rangers for a long time now. Earlier this month, he scored a hat trick against them at the Prudential Center to cap off a 6-3 win, making this their 4th successive win.

The forward once again had a strong performance against them. While he did not score a hat-trick this time, he picked up 3 points again through 1 goal and 2 assists.

Hughes has a point against them in 14 consecutive games dating back to March 22, 2022. In this impressive stretch, he has 28 points (17 goals and 11 assists).

The Devils once again thumped the Rangers 6-3 in the Hudson River rivalry. Their third straight win has improved their record to 35-31-2 for the season.

They are 7th in the Metropolitan Division standings with 72 points from 68 games. With just 14 more games to go, Hughes and his side will need to go on a huge winning run to keep any hopes of making it to the Stanley Cup playoffs alive.
