Hockey: Practice recommences from August 19th for Team India

India’s Women’s Hockey Team in Bengaluru for their National Camp

Both Indian Men’s, as well as Women’s Hockey team, were kept on a 14 day quarantine period, ever since they had arrived on the 4th of August. Problems seemed to not halt for the hockey officials as 6 of their players tested positive of the virus.

However, the Sports Authority of Indian amidst the pandemic confirmed that the practice would resume as per schedule from the 19th of August. As all logistics as well as SOP are strictly implied. Some good has finally come for the hockey fanatics with this announcement.

“After having had detailed discussions with stakeholders including the chief coaches and core probables of both teams and after giving the utmost priority to the safety and well-being of the athletes. That the sporting activities shall resume at SAI’s National Center of Excellence in Bangalore.” as quoted by ANI.

Another SAI’s statement said, “Amid growing concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic, it was necessary to have detailed discussion with the stakeholders. Which resulted in having their consensus on the way motion of sports activities from 19th August 2020 onwards while maintaining proper social distancing norms and other guild lines in the SAI SOP.”

Both men as well as women’s Chief Coaches, Grahan Reid and Sjoerd Marijne expressed how eager their players are to get back on the pitch. It has been more than 5 months since these hockey players have stepped on the court. Henceforth, training and fatigue have to be kept in mind, especially with the Tokyo Olympics and other Major Hockey Tournaments around the corner.
