Holger Rune recently spoke about two of his rivals Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in an interview at the Hamburg Open. Rune, Alcaraz, and Sinner are expected to be the next ‘Big 3’ of the game and have a budding rivalry going on.

While Rune did not have a deep run at Wimbledon, Alcaraz went all the way and won the title, for the second time in a row. Sinner, on the other hand, made a semifinal exit at the tournament.

When asked about his slower progress compared to Alcaraz and Sinner, Rune said that he was not worried about it and that he intends to continue on his path while taking inspiration from them.

I of course continue to hope that I can one day reach this incredible level. What Carlos is currently achieving is immense and we can only congratulate him. Of course, this motivates me to work day after day to reach these spheres. But I only look at my own development, because that is the only one I can influence.

With the Dane also competing in the Olympics, he will be hoping to beat his rivals to the gold medal. While he hasn’t faced either Alcaraz or Sinner this year, he could lock horns with them in Paris.

There was an immediate rise in performances and the Dane looked like a better player than before. However, they had a spat on social media when Becker asked Rune about his hiring of Patrick Mouratoglou and it ended with the two parting ways.

I was a bit confused about the tweet he made, but there are no hard feelings. He was a fantastic player, one of the greatest legends in tennis. I definitely learned something from him

The Dane is now competing at the Hamburg Open, where he reached the third round following wins against Fabian Marozsan and Marco Trungelliti. He is set to face Arthur Fils in the quarterfinals on Friday (July 19).
