Holger Rune has revealed that he aims to bring new energy and intensity to the 2025 Laver Cup tournament. The Danish star is set to make his debut at the event, which will take place in San Francisco on the 18th of September. Also, he will be the first player from his country to take part in the tournament which was co-founded by Roger Federer.

For the past two weeks, Rune has made the headlines for all the wrong reasons. He was recently called out by Anna Kalinskaya for sending her 10 messages asking for a date. But, he later refuted the claim, stressing that if he really wanted to take her out, he would just do it rather than sending messages.

At the Davis Cup qualifiers on Sunday (August 14), the Dane failed to seal the win for his country as they led Spain 2-0. But he lost to Pedro Martinez 1-6, 6-4, 6(3)-7, in a match where the tempers flared as the crowd at the Club de Tennis Puente Romano got involved. Spain came from behind to win Denmark 3-2.

Rune will now have to forget his recent troubles as he looks to give his best for Team Europe at the Laver Cup. He would team up with Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, Casper Ruud, Jakub Mensik, and Tomas Machac. Team Europe will face Team World, which is headlined by Taylor Fritz, Alex de Minaur, Joao Fonseca, and Jenson Brooksby.

Ahead of Team Europe and Team World’s clash at the Laver Cup, Rune revealed that he has high expectations for the tournament. The former World No.4 added during his interview with Laver Cup that he’s looking forward to bringing his own energy and intensity when the event kicks off in San Francisco:

I have high expectations, but above all, I’m going to enjoy it to the fullest. It’s not very often we play as a team, so I think it’s great. I truly believe I’m going to shine in this environment; I’m really looking forward to playing. My plan is to bring a lot of energy and intensity. Every player has their own way of seeing matches and the technical side of the game, and all tennis players can offer great advice. Casper is a great player, so having him on the European team is incredible.

Team Europe is the defending champion of the tournament, having won the title last year beating Team World. The former has also won the title a record five times since its inception in 2017, while the latter has won it twice (in 2022 and 2023).

Holger Rune looks forward to teaming up with Carlos Alcaraz at the Laver Cup

Carlos Alcaraz will take the responsibility to lead Team Europe to victory at the Laver Cup. The Spaniard has been in his best form of his career since April. He has also been the most outstanding player on the tour this season, winning seven titles, including two Grand Slams.

Holger Rune will now be competing alongside Alcaraz at the Laver Cup. The last time both stars played together was at the 2017 Les Petit As Open, which is a top junior tournament. The Danish star revealed during the aforementioned interview that he’s excited to be on the same team as the Spaniard:

Has to be Carlos (Alcaraz). That could be pretty iconic to relive that moment again. Those [were] good memories and obviously we played each other many times, where we’re on the opposite side of the net, so now we can finally try to be on the same side, which is going to be pretty cool.

Rune is currently ranked World No.11 in the ATP rankings. He lifted his fifth tour-level title at the Barcelona Open in April, after beating Alcaraz in straight sets. He reached the fourth round of the Roland Garros, but as the eighth seed at Wimbledon, he fell in five sets to Nicolas Jarry in the first round.
