Holger Rune was quick to shut down Novak Djokovic‘s claims of the crowd being respectful during their match on Monday. The Dane pointed out that he found no faults with the crowd, and they were equally supportive towards both the players.

Novak Djokovic beat Holger Rune in the fourth round of Wimbledon. Both the players had started the match on a shaky note, but it was Djokovic, who got his act together and left his opponent trailing in the match. The Dane did put up a fight in the second set, but it was not enough for Djokovic, who played better than his previous match.

Rune did not capitalize on break point opportunities, which led to his eventual loss. The World No. 2 won the match 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 and sealed his position in the last eight. However, the main highlight of the match came during Djokovic’s on-court interview, when he had some cold messages for the crowd.

According to Djokovic, the fans deliberately chanted Rune’s name as an excuse to boo, and he was adamant about it. Rune, however, disagreed, stating that the fans were genuinely cheering for him, not booing anyone.

If you don’t know what was happening, probably it sounded like ‘boo.’ But… if we all know what happened.. it was my name. He’s played so many matches since he played me last time. If he didn’t remember, it could probably sound different for him.

Furthermore, Rune appreciated Djokovic’s game against him and agreed that the Serbian was better than him in the match. Nevertheless, World No.2 is back in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon and is aiming at a record of an eighth Wimbledon title.

Novak Djokovic continues to comment on the crowd at Wimbledon

Novak Djokovic explained his stance about the Wimbledon crowd. The Serbian targeted the crowd for the disrespect shown in his latest match and later on gave an explanation for it in the post-match interview.

They have the freedom to choose who they back in the match. If someone steps over the line, I react. That’s basically what it was. After the match I said what I said.
Novak Djokovic said in the post-match interview.

The Serbian outplayed Rune in the fourth round and is through to the quarterfinals once again. This year will be his 15th appearance in the last eight and will be aiming at an eighth title. Only Roger Federer is ahead of the Serbian with 18 quarterfinal appearances and eight Wimbledon titles.

Djokovic will now take on Alex de Minaur for a place in the semis.
