Because Holger Rune is nursing his Achilles injury, he has ample time on his hands to do stuff other than playing tennis. Rune recently sat for an interview with former World No.1 Andy Roddick on the latter’s Served podcast.
Among other things, the Dane provided the latest update on his injury. Rune tore his Achilles tendon during the semifinals of last year’s Stockholm Open, where he was playing against eventual runner-up Ugo Humbert. Since his surgery, Rune has kept the tennis community updated on his recovery, posting clips on social media and in interviews.
Things are going really well, actually. Obviously really devastated when it happened, we were very unsure what was going on, we got it checked immediately, and it was kind of the worst thing that could have happened for my Achilles. But, anyways, now I’m doing much better, doing a lot of rehab.

Last year, Rune reached two finals. He first lost the Indian Wells final to Jack Draper, then went past Carlos Alcaraz in the Barcelona Open final.
I’m doing great mentally, honestly, I’ve been very privileged to have all my team around me, and all my family and friends to support me to make life a little bit easier off the tour. But things are going well, I haven’t had any setbacks yet, which is really nice, so just going straightforward.

Rune has just one Big Title to his name. He lifted the 2022 Paris Masters by going past Novak Djokovic, following which, he suffered defeats in three Masters 1000 finals.
In Grand Slam events last year, the 22-year-old, a three-time quarterfinalist, failed to reach the last eight, losing twice in the fourth round (at the Australian Open and the French Open). At Wimbledon and the US Open, he suffered defeats in the first and second rounds, respectively. Because of the injury, Rune is expected to miss the majority of the 2026 season.
Lorenzo Musetti says Holger Rune handled pressure and ambition better than him
Holger Rune reached his career-best ranking of World No.4 in 2023 following his two Grand Slam quarterfinal runs. Lorenzo Musetti, during the Tennis Insider Club podcast, said players like Rune, Carlos Alcaraz, and Jannik Sinner lived up to the expectations, but he struggled to be consistent.

Many people had expectations for me, Holger, Jannik, and Carlos to dethrone [Daniil] Medvedev and the Big 3. So we had a lot of pressure since the beginning. Carlos, Jannik, and Holger, in a way, in a year, especially, he became World No.4; they managed the pressure and ambitions better than me.

Musetti once again lost a final. The last time the Italian ace lifted a title was at the 2022 Tennis Napoli Cup, and since then he has appeared in seven finals, losing all of them. Last year, he made three finals at the Monte Carlo Masters, Chengdu Open, and the Hellenic Championship, losing the matches to Alcaraz, Alejandro Tabilo, and Djokovic.
He started his campaign for the 2026 season at the Hong Kong Open, where the first seed made the final only to suffer a straight-set defeat at the hands of second seed Alexander Bublik. At the Australian Open, the 23-year-old has yet to reach the fourth round. He produced his best performance in the Melbourne Slam when he reached the third round last year.
In Grand Slam events, Musetti has made the semifinals twice: at the 2024 Wimbledon and the 2025 French Open. Since 2024, only two players have won Majors: Alcaraz and Sinner, who have split the last eight titles. In Melbourne, the former will be aiming to complete the Career Grand Slam, while the latter will be eyeing his third consecutive title.
