With four ATP Tour titles—including an ATP Masters 1000 trophy—and five more finals, Holger Rune, at just 21, has made massive strides in tennis. However, what fans might not know about Rune is his philanthropic side.

Since he was a junior, Rune worked with his family to send racquets and clothing to various clubs in Africa to provide materials for those who otherwise could not afford them. The Danish tennis player collaborates with NGOs like Tennis Aid that distribute sports equipment in villages in Africa, such as rackets, balls, and tennis clothing.

I feel very privileged to dedicate myself to what has always been my passion, so I believe I can create a good platform to inspire many people. I had wonderful parents who helped me achieve my dreams, and I believe all children should have the opportunity to fight for what excites them.

Holger Rune said to the Indian Wells press

Holger Rune is currently playing in Indian Wells, where he has made it to the semifinals of the tournament for the first time. This marks his sixth Masters semifinal.

Rune will face two-time finalist Daniil Medvedev in this round. Medvedev holds a 2-1 head-to-head record over Rune and had secured victory in their last two meetings—in last year’s Indian Wells quarterfinal and in the 2023 Italian Open final. The winner of their semifinal match will meet either Jack Draper or two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the finals.

Holger Rune has had an impressive run at Indian Wells

World No. 13 Holger Rune is bidding to win his first ATP title since the 2023 BMW Open in the ongoing Indian Wells Open. He defeated Corentin Moutet in his opening round of the tournament and then defeated Ugo Humbert in three sets in the next.

This match also stirred quite a buzz on social media as it saw the attendance of Hollywood actor Timothee Chalamet, his girlfriend Kylie Jenner, and her sister Kendall Jenner. After the victory, Rune took to X to react to the celebrities attending his match.

The highlight of the tournament was perhaps his Round of 16 match against Stefanos Tsitsipas, where Rune hit a stunning tweener to save a break point in the second set. Rune then battled it out in his quarterfinals as he came from a set down to beat Tallon Griekspoor, even bageling him in the second set.

Prior to Indian Wells, Holger Rune had a rather inconsistent 2025 season

Holger Rune commenced his 2025 season with the Brisbane International, where he had an opening round defeat to Jiri Lehecka. He then competed in the Australian Open, where he lost to World No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the fourth round.

Rune then played in the Rotterdam Open, where he was defeated by Pedro Martinez in the Round of 16. Rune then faced another opening round defeat to Mariano Navone at the Argentina Open. He sadly had to retire mid-match in the second round of the Mexican Open due to food poisoning. After the Mexican Open, Rune next went to Indian Wells, where he has had his best performance of the season so far.
