Holly Holm, former Bantamweight champion is headed for surgery as she is diagnosed of kidney issues
Holly Holm undergoes surgery due to kidney issues.
Holly Holm was recently forced out of her fight against Julianna Pena on May 8. The former Bantamweight fighter has revealed that she had to back out of the fight due to some kidney issues.
Though the fighter is going through some hardships, she believes that she will bounce back very soon. On Tuesday, the former champ released a video on her Instagram talking through the situation she’s going through. Holm also revealed that her return will be very soon.
“Last Wednesday, I had super abdominal pains so I went to the urgent care,” Holm explained. “It’s been kind of something reoccurring, but obviously hasn’t driven me to the urgent care until last Wednesday. Lo and behold, I have hydronephrosis, which is where the kidney does not drain to the bladder correctly.”
Holly is currently sitting on a two-fight winning streak. Her last performance against Irene Aldana was as dominant as it gets. “They admitted me that night to get a little procedure done to get a stent put in there but I do need to get it fixed permanently,” Holm said.
“A little bump in the road,” says Holly Holm as she is confident in making her comeback
Holly Holm was previously scheduled to fight Pena for a number one title contender fight against Amanda Nunes. Now that the fight has been canceled, Julianna has taken her advantage to call out the reigning champion and take her shot. But it won’t be long before Holm makes a comeback.
“In my case, it’s something they say I was born with but just hadn’t had any problems until now,” Holm wrote on Instagram. “I’m doing great and will be fine. A little bump in the road but thankfully it’s fixable. Excited to get back in there and put it all on the line for you guys!!!”
