“More relatable because she’s white, she’s attractive,” Host of The View reacts to Caitlin Clark being ‘vehicle’ to drive WNBA popularity

Sunny Hostin stated that Caitlin Clark's popularity is due to her 'pretty privilege'.

Ever since Caitlin Clark joined the WNBA, the athlete has been in the news for multiple reasons. From the star’s disappointing start in the league to her impactful popularity, Clark has made headlines for some time now. As ESPN’s Jemele Hill argued that Clark’s fame was due to her sexuality and gender, the host’s statement received a lot of reactions from the media.

During an episode of The View, host Sunny Hostin gave her take on Hill’s statement. The host agreed upon Caitlin Clark‘s ‘pretty privilege’ being a factor in the player’s popularity. But Hostin also acknowledged that other players will benefit from the said popularity.

Caitlin Clark is bringing this money, these sponsorships, we hope, into the league. And other players will benefit from it. But I do think that she's more relatable to more people because she's white, because she's attractive

Regardless, Hostin admitted that she has no problems with Clark being the force to bring change in the WNBA. The host reflected on her childhood and the WNBA’s poor situation since the league was established back in 1996. Hostin is on board with Clark’s positive impact on her beloved league.

However, the host did have an issue with the treatment that the LGBTQ+ community receives. Hostin called out the stigma towards the players from the community and stated that a change needs to be made about the situation.

Sunny Hostin’s co-host Whoopi Goldberg had Caitlin Clark’s back

The other host of The View, Whoopi Goldberg had a contradictory opinion than Hostin. The comedian had Clark’s back as she believed that her popularity had nothing to do with the 22-year-old’s sexuality or race. Goldberg stressed Clark’s talent is the reason behind her fame and impact.

Goldberg started by listing Clark’s achievements and milestones during her time in college. According to the comedian, Clark deserves her popularity because none of the players in the league have the same achievements.

When people say stuff like that, that's like saying, you only got into this Ivy League college because you're black… This girl earned this.

Clark did have an amazing career in college but the star is struggling in the WNBA so far. The Indiana Fever lost their fifth straight matchup on Wednesday despite Clark scoring 21 points. The guard is yet to find her rhythm to get on the winning side.
