Brian Kelly’s LSU is the latest team that saw its fans throw debris onto the field to protest against a referee’s decision. Bringing a live Tiger to the game didn’t help their team’s morale one bit as Alabama dominated.

In the third quarter, around seven minutes, Alabama led 21-6 at Baton Rouge. Bama quarterback Jalen Milroe, following the snap, tried to run with the ball, which the Tigers blitz read instantly.

LSU defensive lineman Sai’vion Jones caught up to Milore and impeded his progress. The Tigers’ fans had little to be happy about all night, so a powerful effort by one of their star players made them cheer out loud.

However, a couple of yellow flags on the ground turned the celebration into a fit of rage. Fans weren’t happy and began to throw empty plastic bottles and various other debris on the field.

LSU head coach Brian Kelly was unhappy with the decision as well. He protested to the officials on the sidelines, but they refused to reverse the verdict.

It was one of those rare occasions the officials got a penalty correct. Upon closer inspection, LSU’s Jones grabbed hold of Milroe’s facemask, so the penalty call stood.

Fans trying to influence the referee by throwing debris is slowly becoming a bad habit. Previously, during the Texas-Georgia fixture, Longhorns fans pulled the same move.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart later said

Alabama hands LSU its second defeat of the season

Both teams were on edge, as neither wanted to lose pace with Georgia and Texas A&M at the top of the SEC. However, the Tide hunted the Tigers down in Death Valley.

Brian Kelly couldn’t manage to keep Heisman hopeful Jalen Milroe quiet, and he took complete advantage of LSU’s leaky defensive line by scoring four rushing touchdowns from 12 rushes for 185 yards. He also completed 12 passes from 18 attempts for 109 yards through the air. Only Jam Miller had 5 receptions for 50 yards in the game for Bama.

LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier had a below-average game compared to his high standards. Nussmeier threw two interceptions (both of the throws were straight to a Bama player). From 42 attempts, he only managed to complete 27 passes for 239 yards and one score. Kyren Lacy had 5 receptions for 79 yards.

The loss to Alabama leaves LSU smacked down the middle of the SEC race. On the brighter side, Kelly’s team secured the high-profile signing of five-star quarterback recruit Bryce Underwood, who committed to LSU and was present at the game.
