NBA legend LeBron James‘ ‘The Decision’ back in 2010 altered the course of the league for the coming decade. James, making up his mind to leave his beloved Cleveland Cavaliers for the Miami Heat, made and changed the lives of many people in the process.

This also included famed ESPN journalist Shams Charania. Charania recently claimed on the Sports Reporters Podcast that James and his 2010 decision led him to join Twitter back then. He spoke in detail regarding this matter on the podcast, claiming he was ’14’ when he joined the social media platform.

I was [14] in 2010, that’s good, you know how old I was. And you know why I did [joined Twitter] in 2010? It’s because of LeBron James, that’s it, that’s the only reason.

Shams Charania said on the Sports Reporters Podcast

Charania is typically the first to share anything on X and other social media platforms, including team trade discussions, injury updates, behind-the-scenes information, and any other breaking news. Thanks to LeBron James’ single decision back in 2010.

If it weren’t for James, the NBA world might not have come across the talents of the hard-working and ever-dedicated ESPN journalist. It’s also interesting to note that the NBA Insider started reporting for the Chicago Bulls via. a local website while still in high school. He moved on to RealGM and Yahoo Sports a few years later, where he expanded his positive national reputation for breaking significant NBA news.

Shams Charania shared an interesting case regarding his ‘passion for sport’

LeBron James’ 2010 decision or not, Shams Charania would have still found himself in the sports world because of his passion for the sport. The NBA Insider spoke about what made him choose this path, where he claimed that he was immersed in the sport from a very young age, making it clear that he would still be into reporting in the NBA regardless of James’ decision.

I feel like I was coming into, you know, I guess knowing what sports are and all of that, like mid-2000s was really when I started closely following sports. And I think that around that time, that 2006 to 2010 period, like for me, I was just so obsessed with like, where’s this player going in the NBA? Where’s this coach going? Like, is this trade happening? Like I was growing up in Chicago, like I was monitoring every day leading up to each trade deadline.

Luckily for Charania, everything has worked out well in this industry, from his early days at Yahoo Sports to replacing the legendary Adrian Wojnarowski at ESPN. Also, Charania and Wojnarowski engaged in an unspoken feud about who tweeted the news first before he was replaced.

Shams Charania made a clear case regarding LeBron James and the Lakers a month ago

With each season, LeBron James continues to make headlines during the NBA trade market. This season is no different, as James is heavily involved in trade discussions and rumors with various NBA teams due to his uncertainty about staying in Los Angeles. That said, James opting in to his $52.6 million player option sends more mixed signals towards the NBA teams interested in him.

Interestingly, NBA reporter Shams Charania also provided an intriguing case on this matter a month ago on the SiriusXM NBA Radio.

LeBron James, on the other hand, he’s 40 years old, going to be 41, he wants to play for a championship next season, he’s made that abundantly clear... He feels, clearly, that the Lakers are in a more futuristic mindset… And I think that situation will play out over the next two months, I think some hard conversations will eventually need to happen there.

Shams Charania said on the SiriusXM NBA Radio

James wants to contend for a title, according to his agent Rich Paul, and he is aware that the Lakers are restructuring around Luka Doncic. Paul’s cryptic statement suggested that James and the Lakers are not on the same page, which led to trade rumors for the latter.
