Rob Gronkowski revealed how he missed the chance to play with Joe Burrow at Bengals

Joe Burrow could have had an incredible addition in four-time Super Bowl winner Rob Gronkowski as his tight end—if only Gronk had answered his texts.

Joe Burrow cast his dice but came out with nothing while trying to recruit Rob Gronkowski. The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback personally messaged the 4x Super Bowl winner, but he never replied back.

During the recent segment of the Dudes On Dudes Podcast, Gronkowski told former New England Patriots teammate Julian Edelman a story involving Burrow. The Pro Bowler left a message on Gronk’s phone, introducing himself.

I get a text message. Yo Gronk, what’s up man? Heard you talking about me in the media. It’s Joe Burrow.

Burrow then popped the important question.

I would love if you came to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Joe Burrow wrote in the message, as per Gronk

However, the ex-Buccaneers star thought it was a prank and never replied back until he had a rude awakening when coming face to face with Burrow. Gronk met with the LSU graduate at Michael Rubin’s 4th of July White Party.

They greeted each other, and Burrow asked why Gronk ghosted him.

Yo, you never responded to me… And I knew exactly what he was talking about and I was like ‘No frickin’ way that it was actually you!!!’

Why did Rob Gronkowski not reply to Joe Burrow?

Gronk had a reason behind ghosting Burrow. He experienced a similar situation back in 2015 when defensive tackle Malcom Brown signed with the Patriots as the 32nd overall pick in the draft.

Gronkowski revealed receiving a text on his phone from Brown.

When Malcolm Brown was drafted to the Patriots, I got a text message that night that was like, ‘Hey Rob, it’s Malcolm Brown, pleasure to be on your team. It’s an honor to be your teammate‘.

However, when he dialed the same number in the evening, someone else answered it instead of Brown. Gronk realized that it was a massive prank by someone. That day, he decided to be cautious about trusting unknown numbers.

I was like, I ain’t ever gonna let that sh** happen to me ever again. I ain’t answering random numbers.

To surmise the entire story, someone posing as Malcom Brown prevented Gronkowski from answering Joe Burrow’s plea to join the Bengals. It will not surprise anyone if he unretires himself and lines up next to Burrow because he is still only 35 and has done it before.

After announcing retirement from football, Gronk tagged along with Tom Brady to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he won his fourth and last Super Bowl.
