Mechanics were introduced in Minecraft after the advent of the Redstone material which acts as the power source or electrical power in the game. It can be used to power several of the items that comprise of the machines that the players can build. Pistons are one of those mechanical components and the Sticky Piston is a variant of the Piston.

The Sticky Piston is similar to the piston, in the sense that it pushes the block in the direction of the head, but it can also pull back the block that is connected to the head.

The regular Piston can only push the block away but cannot pull the block back in. However, the first block connected to the Sticky Piston in Minecraft will move with the head, i.e., it pushes and pulls. But the block connected to the first block can only be pushed just like a Piston.

Sticky Pistons can generate inside Jungle Temples in the game and there are only 3 available in each.

Sticky Pistons are operated with Redstone power and operates on ticks of the power. Ticks are the pulse of the power that circulates within the circuit. Shorter Ticks can make the Sticky Piston head faster and sometimes drop the first block instead of pulling it back.

Players need the following items to make a Sticky Piston in Minecraft:

  • Piston x1
  • Slimeball x1

Pistons can be made by following the guide here. Slimeballs are found by killing Slimes in the overworld and can be quite hard to find. Swamp biomes have the most chance of spawning slimes.
