Qualification Criteria for Golf at the Paris Olympics 2024
Each event will include a total of 60 participants. The qualification system is based on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). The top 15 players are automatically qualified. If a country has more than one golfer in the top 15, it can send up to four players.
Following that, up to two more players from each country may qualify, provided their country does not already have two in the top 15. France, as the host country, is guaranteed at least one position.
Golf Men’s Field at the Paris Olympics 2024
The current world number one, Scottie Scheffler from the United States, leads the field. He is followed by Irishman Rory McIlroy, who is ranked second. The incumbent Olympic champion, Xander Schauffele, is ranked third. Notable players include Sweden’s Ludvig Aberg (ranked fourth) and the United States’ Wyndham Clark and Collin Morikawa (rated fifth and seventh, respectively).
The top ten also include Viktor Hovland of Norway (sixth), Jon Rahm of Spain (ninth), and Hideki Matsuyama of Japan (twelfth). Tommy Fleetwood from Great Britain completes the top 10.
Notable absentees:
Despite the huge field, numerous well-known players will miss the tournament. Justin Rose, the 2016 Olympic gold medalist, will not compete. Neither will Bryson DeChambeau or Tiger Woods, who have both enjoyed successful golf careers. Their absence gives a chance for emerging athletes to shine on the Olympic stage.
