Hubert Hurkacz recently withdrew from the 2024 Paris Olympics because of an injury. He has now revealed that his injury could be more severe than previously suspected.
Hurkacz picked up the injury at Wimbledon. In his second-round match against Arthur Fils, he had a fall and suffered a crooked foot. He realized the severity of the injury as soon as he got up.
The Wroclaw native had suffered a meniscus tear and underwent surgery to address the issue. The recovery is expected to take at least several months. Hurkacz has predicted that he will return to action only at the start of next season.
We fought for the Olympics… it didn't work out. I couldn't play in Paris, it would have been dangerous. Right after the injury, I talked to the doctors and eight out of ten said that realistically I could only play in Australia.Hubert Hurkacz said (via Eurosport)
According to his doctor, the 27-year-old could be sidelined till the Australian Open early next year.

With Hubert Hurkacz out of the Paris Olympics, not only will Poland lose one of their top players but also a chance of winning a medal in the men’s doubles and mixed doubles.
Besides singles, Hurkacz was expected to play in the men’s doubles with Jan Zielinski and mixed doubles with Iga Swiatek. His withdrawal meant both Zielinski and Swiatek would not be able to compete in the doubles as they hoped. A dejected Hurkacz has stated that pulling out of the Games was not an easy decision to take.
It was our dream. We did everything we could. We wanted to go to the Olympics to have a chance to fight for medals. Unfortunately, my health didn't allow me to do that this year, it's dangerous.Hubert Hurkacz said (via Eurosport)
Olympic rules dictate that Zielinski cannot replace Hurkacz in the mixed doubles with Swiatek because he is not ranked high enough as a singles player to qualify.
