The tempers flared up on Saturday afternoon when the New York Rangers took on the Montreal Canadiens at the Madison Square Garden (MSG). A huge scrum between the two sets of players broke out in the second period.
The Rangers entered this game in a poor run of form. The 2023-24 President’s Trophy winners had lost five games in a row. This string of results lead to several fans including NFL Boomer Esiason attacking them for their performances.
Rangers captain Jacob Trouba has come under the spotlight for his poor performances in recent weeks. In an attempt to light up his teammates and the home fans, he got into a tussle with Josh Anderson merely 30 seconds into the game.
The two players would exchange heavy punches and grab each other while trying to gain an advantage. Anderson seemed to have the upper hand as he kept on spinning around Trouba. After a while, the Canadiens star emerged as the winner from this fight.

Throughout the afternoon, it seemed as tempers would boil over any time soon. It did happen later on in the second period when a massive scrum broke out between the players.
With less than 90 seconds remaining in the second period, the Canadiens tried to force the puck in the Rangers net as they were 3-1 down at that point. After the Canadiens were unable to find a goal, some pushing and shoving started.
This quickly ignited into a massive brawl as players got into separate groups and exchanged haymakers at their opponents. Even Rangers goaltender Jonathan Quick got involved in this massive altercation. Check out the video below:

The Canadiens found a way back in the third period to make it a 3-3 game. However, they suffered late heartbreak as with just 22.5 seconds left, Kaapo Kakko scored for the Rangers to make it 4-3. This saw the Rangers snap their five-game losing run.
Canadiens HC Martin St. Louis slams referees by repeating same sentence in the press conference
The officiating in the New York Rangers and Montreal Canadiens game left several fans stunned. Thus many were eager to hear what Canadiens HC Martin St. Louis would say about it. The coach slammed the officials by repeating the same sentence in the press conference.
The bilingual press conference lasted just over one minute and 10 seconds. St. Louis was not impressed by the officials and refused to talk about them. He though liked the way his team played in this game.
Lasted a total of 1:10, six questions, every answer the same.

The defeat leaves the Habs with an 8-12-3 record with three losses in the last four games. They will now travel to the TD Garden to take on the Boston Bruins in their next game. The Bruins also lost their last game and would be hoping to bounce back in this match.
