Patrick Mahomes is dangerous even when he plays with a weakened Kansas City Chiefs, marred with injuries and suspensions to key players. It’s scary to picture the level of production he can bring out when the Chiefs are at full strength. Well, the entire league caught a glimpse of it on Week 7’s Sunday as the Chiefs shut out the Las Vegas Raiders 31-0 at home.
2025 began in a disappointing fashion. Losses against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Jacksonville Jaguars left the Chiefs with a 2-3 record after five games.
Mahomes still produced 8 touchdowns and averaged 230+ passing yards across the first five games. He broke the jinx in a morale-boosting win over the Detroit Lions.
Rashee Rice‘s return after serving his six-game suspension added extra zing to the Chiefs’ confidence, and it showed against their bitter divisional rivals this week. Rice scored 2 touchdowns, while Mahomes finished the day with 26 completions from 35 attempts for 286 yards and threw 3 touchdown passes (one to Hollywood Brown).
The Raiders, on the other hand, looked completely out of sync. Geno Smith, who led the league with 10 interceptions heading into the game, kept the game clean… too clean. Smith threw just one first down the entire first half, and it took him nearly the end of the third quarter to throw his second. By that time, the Chiefs had taken a 21-0 lead.
Head coach Pete Carroll decided to switch quarterbacks in order to generate a spark. Smith went for an early shower after completing 10 passes from 16 attempts for 67 yards.
Geno is fucking garbage today is the day he gets benched and Pickett will start after the bye week, book it. And if not, Pete Carroll is an idiot. #RaiderNation

Kenny Pickett came in and fumbled on his first snap. The former Steeler, Eagle, and Brown QB accumulated just 2 completions the entire time he was on the field in the last quarter.

In the meantime, Mahomes increased the Chiefs’ lead with the help of running back Isiah Pacheco before kicker Harrison Butker‘s 38-yard field goal conversion 30 seconds before the two-minute warning was enough to send the Raiders fans emptying the bleachers at Arrowhead Stadium.
Conceding 31 unanswered points was humiliating enough; the Chiefs decided to rub the loss in the Tom Brady-owned franchise’s face. The Chiefs took a knee with more than two minutes left on the clock. Ironically, the one who took the knee was ex-Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew, who signed for the Chiefs in the offseason.

The Raiders had just 95 total yards in the entire game (passing and rushing yards combined) from just 17.87 minutes of ball possession. According to The Ringer‘s Sheil Kapadia,
Today’s Raiders offensive performance was tied for the worst by any team in the last 25 years based on offensive success rate.

Patrick Mahomes surpasses Hall of Fame quarterback in wins
Before Sunday’s fixture, Mahomes stood at 92 wins. After beating the Raiders, his win count increased to 93 total wins.

Mahomes overtook Hall of Famer Peyton Manning with the most wins by the age of 30 or younger.

For context, Brady is fourth on the list with 86 wins, while ex-Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had 87 wins.
Mahomes improved his season’s tally to 164 completions for 1800 yards (66.1%), 14 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. The Chiefs are 4-3 and will face the Washington Commanders, who suffered a defeat against the Dallas Cowboys in week seven.
