Hyderabad FC name 22-man squad to play Durand Cup
As the 130th edition of the Durand Cup kicks off from 5th September in Kolkata, Hyderabad FC has announced the team that will participate in the tournament. The team consists of 22 members, but only four of them are from the first team set-up. Senior players Lalbiakhlua Jongte, Pritam Soraisam, Ishan Dey, and Abdul Rabeeh join a group of young guns as the newest franchise in ISL looks to make a mark on Asia’s oldest football tournament.
Hyderabad FC: Full contingent for Durand Cup
- Goalkeepers: Lalbiakhlua Jongte, Aman Kumar Sahani, Abhinav Mulagada
- Defenders: Pritam Soraisam, Amritpal Singh, Muhammed Rafi, Goutam Saikhom, Muhammad Safique Ahmed, Dipu Halder, Paogoumang Singson
- Midfielders: Abdul Rabeeh, Mark Zothanpuia, Lalchungnunga Chhangte, R Swapana Jeevan RT, Koustav Dutta, Crespo Vanlalhriatpuia, Lalrintluanga, Suhit Chhetry, Amosa Lalnundanga, Rohlupuia
- Forwards: Ishan Dey, Arun Kabrabam
The team will be playing under Thangboi Singto, who is the First Team Assistant Coach and the Technical Director of Youth at the club, with Shameel Chembakath, the head coach of the reserve set-up, by his side. Prabhakar Raj, Joy Gabriel, Vinu Varghese, and Nithin Mohan all join Thangboi and Shameel in the technical team.
What waits for Hyderabad FC in the Durand Cup?
The Nizams are drawn in Group D and will kick start their campaign against Assam Rifles on 12th September, before facing defending Champions from the 2019/20 campaign, Gokulam Kerala on 16th September. Hyderabad concludes their group stages on 19th when they face the Army Red Football team.
The newly formed team from Hyderabad would be looking to repeat the heroics of Hyderabad City Police, who dominated Indian football in the 1950s and also won the same Durand Cup three times in their history.
