“I am not tooting my horn,” Rafael Nadal on why he is not a difficult person to get along with

Toni Nadal, Rafael Nadal

Rafael Nadal has repeatedly said in the past that he attributes much of his success in tennis to his uncle, Toni Nadal who has played a vital part in Nadal’s career, right from the moment the Spaniard picked up the tennis racket up until 2017. The pair won 16 Grandslam titles during their time together and are the most successful player-coach partnership in tennis.
Rafael Nadal has never believed in changing his coaching staff, which most of the players on tour keep doing. A testament to the fact is that he had Toni Nadal by his side from 1990-2017, who left the coaching staff on his own will, Carlos Moya has been a part of Nadal’s coaching team since 2016. He has enjoyed the company of Frances Roig Genis since 2005, who is his alternate coach.
In an interview to Santander Private Banking, Rafael Nadal said that the main reason of him having long partnerships with his coaches are because he is an easy person to get along with. “I think I am not a difficult person under any circumstances to get along with, I am not tooting my horn,” said Rafael Nadal.
I have never gotten rid of anyone in my coaching team: Rafael Nadal

Rafael Nadal stated that he had never gotten rid of anyone from his coaching team and said that his uncle, Toni Nadal’s decision to leave the coaching staff was his own decision. “I have never changed coaches, I do not think I have ever gotten of anyone from my team,” said Nadal.
Rafael Nadal pointed out to two main reasons for his long stint with coaches, with the first one being fortunate to find great people and other one being adaptable to various situations and people. “There are two choices, I have always found great people or I think that people are not perfect and you find a way to make things work,” he said.
“Tony left because he chose to but from then on I had a different physiotherapist who left because he had different projects and then I have had the same physical coach, I have had Francis since 2005 and Carlos Moya joined in 2016,” added Rafael Nadal.
