“I deserve the title more than you at this point,” says Stephen Thompson as he takes a dig at Leon Edwards in his recent interview

Stephen Thompson comments on Leon Edwards' eye-poke incident.

Stephen Thompson has been building up a commendable resume in his welterweight division as he is in line to the title shot too. The fighter feels like he is in his prime and deserves the title shot more than anybody. The American fighter was also visibly disgusted by the past weekend.

Thompson was recently seen in the podcast interview, “What’s Up Everybody?!”. In the interview, the fighter spoke about his future in the welterweight division and the eye-poke incident on UFC Vegas 21. The ‘Wonderboy’ has a record of 16-4-1 in his career. “With the eye poke, there’s only one thing to do, and that’s to run it back,” Thompson said.

Stephen believes that Leon Edwards does not deserve a title shot after his eye-poke incident. “I know Edwards is saying he deserves the title next, but you can’t get the title after being gone for two years and then having a no-contest with a poke to the eye.” Thompson believes he deserves it more.

In UFC Vegas 21, Leon Edwards and Belal Muhammad went head to head where the English fighter accidently eye poked his opponent that led to bleeding of his eye. The fight was called ‘no contest’. If Leon had won that bout he was assured a title shot.

Thompson believes Edwards should have been disqualified

“I know Edwards is like, ‘No man, I want to fight for the title,’” he said. “Come on, dude. You haven’t fought. I deserve the title more than you deserve it at this point. I’m just saying. You know what I mean? Come on, guys. I’m the only guy that Usman hasn’t fought.”

Thompson also wondered why Aljamain Sterling was awarded the disqualification victory and the title while Edwards’ fight ended in no contest. “It was the second time, he got warned didn’t he?” Thompson said.

“That should have been a disqualification. It was a no-contest, what? Edwards should have been DQ’d. That’s twice. He got warned, did it again, done-zo.” Do you agree with his comments?
