“I don’t care how good the guy is, because he just hasn’t done anything yet” Chris Weidman isn’t happy with UFC pushing Khamzat Chimaev
Khamzat Chimaev is amongst the most fortunate UFC fighters, this year he won three fights in minimum numbers of days and made a UFC record. With this, he got a chance to face the number 4 ranked Welterweight fighter Gilbert Burns and this made many people unhappy because of the push he is getting.
The former UFC Middleweight champion Chris Weidman also isn’t happy with UFC pushing Khamzat ahead and him skipping all the fighters before facing the top five. In his recent interview with MMA journalist James Lynch, Weidman says
“I mean, no matter what, he’s getting blown out of proportion. I don’t care how good the guy is, because he just hasn’t done anything yet. If he ends up being unbelievable and the next Khabib Nurmagomedov, then that’s awesome”
“But still, it’s kind of unprecedented for a guy to be pushed this hard, this quickly without really having any proof to earn it,” Not only Weidman, but Wonderboy Thompson also wasn’t happy with Khamzat’s push too. Before his fight with Geoff Neal, Thompson says,
“The guy Khamzat Chimaev has had one fight at welterweight in the UFC. One fight. What gives this guy the right to jump over everybody that worked their behinds off to get to where they’re at? It just didn’t make sense,”
Weidman turned the fight against Khamzat
According to ‘The Borz’ he issued a fight challenge to Weidman earlier in January and he turned it down. Khamzat tweeted, “I just want to let my fans know and the people who support me the ufc offer me wonder boy and he turned it down at 170 and also chris Weidman at 185 who also turned it down. I’m coming for everyone,”
Weidman responded to him by issuing him a challenge to face him in January, he said “This guy Chimeav needs some humbling would love to do that. January I’m in! UFC make this happen.” Although Khamzat gets Leon ‘Rocky’ Edwards, who is a better-ranked opponent than Weidman.
