“I don’t know what’s the situation going to be yet,” Rafael Nadal gives his views on the Australian Open 2021 schedule uncertainty
Rafael Nadal, world number two expressed his views regarding the Australian Open 2021 uncertainty. He reiterated that the players had no option but to be patient and wait until the respective authorities take a call on the situation. Over the past few weeks, there is a cloud of uncertainty surrounding the Australian Open and other tournaments in Australia because of the coronavirus pandemic, with a chance of it getting delayed.
Tennis Australia came out with a statement on Saturday which stated that they are working closely with the Victorian government and a decision will be out soon. Craig Tiley, CEO of Tennis Australia had posted a statement on his twitter account. Tennis Australia also hinted at a possible sale of tickets in the upcoming weeks, which is an indications that fans might be allowed in the stadium.
Speaking after his semifinal loss to Daniil Medvedev, Rafael Nadal, gave his views on the same and said that the best thing to do was to wait. “I don’t know what’s the situation going to be yet, we need to wait about what the government there in Victoria says. We can’t do much from ATP position or just wait. We [are] nobody to say what they feel is better for [their] country, no?,” said Nadal.

Rafael Nadal suffered a disappointing end to his season after he lost to Daniil Medvedev in 3 sets at the Nitto ATP Finals. Speaking after his match, the Spaniard hooped that there would be a vaccine available soon, and the players need to be flexible and find a way to play as many tournaments as possible next year.
“We just need to be patient and accept the situation that we are facing,” Nadal added. “That is difficult for everyone. We need to be flexible to understand the situation and to find a way to play as many tournaments as possible next year. Hopefully with the vaccine, that ends soon and we can come back at least to close to normal in a couple of months, but now is a difficult situation,” Nadal said.
If all goes according to plan, and tennis Australia sticks to their schedule, Rafael Nadal will start his 2021 season in Australia where he will have his eyes set on the Australian Open in Melbourne.
