Andy Murray played his final match in the men’s doubles at the 2024 Paris Olympics and ended his illustrious 19-year-old professional career. His wife, Kim Sears, who was in the British legend’s box has revealed the unbearable emotions she went through watching him play.

The 37-year-old and his doubles partner Dan Evans enjoyed a thrilling run at the Paris Olympics. They saved three match points to beat Japan’s Taro Daniel and Kei Nishikori in the first round. They went on to save five match points and beat Belgium’s Jordan Vliegen and Sander Gille 6-3, 6-7, 11-9.

In the quarterfinals, the pacy and aggressive partnership of Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul ended Murray and Evans’s hopes of winning a medal with a 6-2, 6-4 win. Tears came down Murray’s eyes after the match as the crowd on Court Suzanne Lenglen gave him a standing ovation.

Kim Sears, his wife, has stated that she struggles to watch Murry play having known all the challenges he has faced in his career.

I really struggle to watch Andy play. I think as a mother and with four other children to deal with, I find it incredibly stressful. I’ve never seen anyone rise to a challenge like he does. I think he’s comfortable with his back against the wall and he’s having to fight for something. And I think that’s obviously what’s made him a great player. I mean I feel bad when he’s playing to be honest, it’s a really bad feeling.

Murray and Sears married in 2015, a year before he won his third Grand Slam at Wimbledon. The couple has been blessed with four children, Sophia, Eddie, Teddy, and Lola.

Despite the injuries in 2019, Murray went on to win the Antwerp title beating Stan Wawrinka. He revealed he was happy to bow out of the sport on his terms.

“Obviously, I was emotional, because it’s the last time I will play a competitive match. But I am genuinely happy, just now. I’m happy with how it’s finished. I’m glad I got to go out here at the Olympics and finish on my terms, because at times in the last few years, that wasn’t a certainty,”
