‘I get to push myself to the next one, so that’s what I took the most from it’ – Justin Gaethje on what he has learnt from the Khabib Nurmagomedov loss
Justin Gaethje and Khabib Nurmagomedov fought, back at UFC 254. Khabib made quick work of Justin, making him tap, in only the second round, to a triangle choke. The events that followed after that were more intense – Khabib announced his retirement from the sport, revealing that he had promised his mother, he wouldn’t step in the octagon after the Justin fight, in the absence of his late father.
Speaking in an interview MMA journalist Helen Yee, Justin spoke about what he has learned from the loss against Khabib Nurmagomedov. He said that losing definitely is uncomfortable, but it ultimately pushes oneself to the next one.
“It’s good to be uncomfortable sometimes” – Justin Gaethje
Justin “The Highlight” Gaethje was quoted as saying, “Losing sucks. You never want to lose, every time. I never became complacent, I never would, at this level, but you know, winning is comfortable, and it’s good to be uncomfortable sometimes, so I get to be uncomfortable right now, and I get to push myself to the next one, so that’s what I took the most from it.”
The number 1 ranked lightweight contender, is yet to land an opponent. But, he might probably take on the winner of Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier, which might see him, even challenging for the title. For now, Justin seems to be enjoying his time off with his family.
Who do you want Justin Gaethje fighting next? Will we soon see him becoming the undisputed lightweight champion?
